Nelson MP Nick Smith joined Originair on its first service this week between Nelson and Wellington saying the competition in air services was hugely beneficial to the region.
“The first Originair flight between Nelson and Wellington is a positive and significant development in our air services. It provides choice, competition and the new airline has already created an additional ten jobs in the region. It is also significant that Originair is 100% locally owned”.
“I was impressed by the service on the first flight. Jetstream aircraft are fast and comfortable and the customer service was efficient and friendly. I would happily commend the new service to locals and visitors”.
“The development of competition in Nelson’s air services is hugely significant for the region. We are a geographically isolated region that needs an efficient and frequent air service to prosper. The benefits are for business, Nelsonians travelling, as well as for our visitor industry”.
“I also welcome the announcement by Nelson Airport of its intention to build a new terminal facility. The increased air service links, passenger numbers and airlines means we need to upgrade the facilities. I will be encouraging the Nelson Airport Company to invest in an iconic building hopefully of timber design with an artistic flair that will make a statement to visitors about who we are as Nelsonians”.
